Letter to your United States Senators

Senators Conrad and Dorgan represent the people of North Dakota and welcome input from you. If you feel strongly about an issue before them, a short letter or email with a clear message can be very effective. Write about one issue at a time, and remember to use your own words in writing a letter or email. Conversational, straightforward language is best.

Don't feel as though you have to understand all of the legislative process before you write. You simply need to tell the senators why you believe they should vote NO on EFCA and provide them with your personal reasons for your opinion.

In your letter or email to Senators Conrad and Dorgan:

1. Clearly state your request - for example, "I'm writing to ask you to vote NO on the Chard Check legislation coming before the Senate soon.

2. Support your point briefly with the point you are most passionate about.

3. Be positive in presenting your ideas. You're much more likely to be heard if you use respectful and friendly language, rather than a tone of disapproval or criticism.
